As the autumn season unfolds, join us for a short hike in Abruzzo at the feet of the Velino Mountain, for a chance to witness the mesmerizing deer rut. The adventure kicks off at 3:30pm from a designated meeting point in the park. We’ll make our way to a strategic point, where we’ll spend about an hour to hear the mating call of the deer (and, equipped with binoculars and a bit of luck, also see them) and witness this captivating natural phenomenon up close, gaining a deeper understanding of the park’s wildlife.*
*Note that deer encounters are not guaranteed. During the hike we will look for signs of deer and listen to their rut, as we make our way through their habitat.
Where: Massa d’Albe, Abruzzo (the exact meeting point will be announced after confirmation)
When: Sunday, October 6 @3.30 pm
Duration: about 4 hours (the exact time varies, depending on the weather conditions and participants)
Cost: Full price: 35€ – 30% discount for Expat members (read below) – transport not included. Includes insurance for each participant.

The starting point is: Massa d’Albe (the precise starting point, and meeting point for car pooling, will be communicated in your confirmation email)

ℹ️ The final duration of the hiking event and the itinerary may vary, depending on weather conditions, unexpected obstacles (e.g. a fallen tree along the way), or other safety reasons. It is at the discretion of the professional hiking guide to determine alternatives or to shorten or extend the experience.
This is a professional activity in accordance with European Union legislation and Italian law no. 4 dating to 2003.
Sal is a professional guide enrolled in the register of the Italian Association of Interpretive Nature Guides – AIGAE.
What should you bring?
Obligatory: Hiking boots, 1.5 liters of water, layered clothing suited for an outdoor hike, backpack, warm clothes as it can get very chilly in the evening
Recommended: Hiking poles, Hat, protection from sun, comfortable backpack, raincoat, trail snacks
Optional: Electrolytes, sunglasses

Who is the guide?
Sal, a certified outdoor guide (member of AIGAE), leads this tour. He’s also a former Komoot route editor and a National Geographic Day Tour guide. His mission is to make information about the Italian outdoors and wilderness experiences accessible to everyone and to promote a healthier lifestyle and connection with nature.
