The Carnevale Festival in Tivoli Feb 2-25 

Not too far outside Rome is a magical small town which comes to life during the Carnevale season.  Most famous for Villa d’Este and Villa Adriana, Tivoli boasts a festive parade of characters every weekend in February, equipped with fashion shows and street markets.  Visit this website for a full schedule of events or find them on Facebook.

LunEur Park Carnevale: Children’s Festival Feb 1-23

The children's amusement park in Eur is hosting a small Carnevale festival for the family  each weekend.  Bring your costumes and masks for this outdoor event and be sure to arrive at 12:30 or 17:00 for the animated “confetti battles”.   More details here.

Museo dell'Ara Pacis

After last year’s success at the Cinémathèque Française in Paris, this exhibition arrives in Rome to commemorate the iconic Italian film director on the 30 year anniversary of his death with a celebration of his work.  Best credited as the inventor of the “Spaghetti Western” film genre, Leone is most famous for his films starring Clint Eastwood: A Fistfull of Dollars (1964), For a Few Dollars More (1964) and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1965).  His more modern work included the 1984 classic Once upon a time in America, starring Robert Dinero.

The exhibition is divided into various tracks including: Citizen of cinema, The sources of the imaginary, Leone;s laboratory, Once upon a time in America, Leningrad and more.

Federico Fellini, Ironico, Beffardo e Centenario: The 100 year anniversary of his birth Jan 20- Feb 28

Celebrating the 100th anniversary of his birth, the Bibliotheca Angelica is hosting this small-scaled exhibition features 30 images of the 150 images included in the National Photo Library.  The images were carefully selected to celebrate and highlight the spirit of who Fellini was and is not meant to represent the biography nor filmography aspects of his life.

Also included in the exhibition is an unpublished work of Fellini he titled The astronaut’s diet.  The original document is featured from his private collection, as a game he designed to help “artists and astronauts” lose weight.
