On Friday, June 2, 2023, on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of Festa della Repubblica (Republic Day), institutional ceremonies and initiatives are scheduled to celebrate the beginning of the Italian Republic.
Starting at 9:00 am, the President of the Republic, in the presence of the highest institutional figures, pays homage at the Altare della Patria in Piazza Venezia by laying a laurel wreath with a tricolor ribbon. Simultaneously, the Frecce Tricolori (Italian Air Force aerobatic team) will perform a flyover in the skies of Rome, followed by the Rivista Militare (Military Review) at the Fori Imperiali, a traditional parade dating back to 1948.
Do you want to witness the flyover of the Frecce Tricolori from above? To admire the spectacle, it is recommended to go to the area around Piazza Venezia/Fori Imperiali/Colosseum around the starting time or find a suitable place, such as terraza del gianicolo o terraza del pincio.
The Ministry of Culture has also decided to provide free access to museums, archaeological areas, state-owned parks, and monumental complexes, including spaces where temporary exhibitions are held, without requiring a separate exhibition route or ticket.
Festa della Repubblica is the day when all Italians express a sense of belonging to Italy, proud of its history and what it has been able to build over the years. This history is founded on our Constitution. The Italian Republic was born on June 2, 1946: the popular referendum held to choose the institutional form of the State and to elect representatives of the Constituent Assembly marked the beginning of the life of the Italian Republic.
When: Friday, June 2, 2023
Time: The ceremony at Altare della Patria starts at 9 am.
Where: Piazza Venezia
Additional information: FREE access to museums, archaeological areas, state-owned parks, and monumental complexes, including spaces where temporary exhibitions are held, without requiring a separate exhibition route or ticket.
