Wild Abruzzo: A hike in Escher’s Bear Country
Discover the Wild Abruzzo on a guided hike that takes you through the breathtaking landscapes that inspired Dutch artist Escher. Just 1.5 hours from Rome, immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Sagittario Gorges and the charming town of Castrovalva, nestled on a mountain ridge.
Our journey begins in Anversa degli Abruzzi, following ancient shepherds’ trails through rivers and a stunning canyon. Ascend to Castrovalva and take in the astounding views of the majestic mountains surrounding you. This mid-level difficulty hike covers approximately 8 kilometers with a 360-meter elevation gain, featuring uneven and rocky terrain.
The adventure lasts about 3.5 hours, including briefings and rest breaks, with variations possible due to weather or other conditions, under the guidance of our professional hiking guide.
Book your spot now for an unforgettable experience in the heart of Italy. Prepare for your hike with mandatory hiking shoes, 1.5 liters of water, and weather-appropriate layered clothing. Optional gear includes hiking poles and sunglasses for extra comfort.
